THE WORLD IS ENDING!!!

So its official I never update my blog lol. Im going to attempt to fill you in even thou I know its only my mom reading this (don't hate.) If you don't know already I go to the best school in the world AnimationMentor.com. So far at AM I have been taught by guys working at Pixar, DreamWorks and BlueSky. Im learning so much my head could explode! But It was great to finally meet all the cool peeps behind animation mentor this summer at their BBQ in San Fransisco.

But school does not pay for Itself so I have been animating and producing allot of commercial projects as well. Here's a snippet from a Viral Video I made for www.yoursgi.com

Last but not least I got to see the feature film "October Baby" I helped produce and it was AMAZING! The Erwin Brothers are wizards.

Walk Cycle Test

I love this character! If you have ever played the popular game Team Fortress, you will probably notice him as the main character. I found the rig at this link http://tiny.cc/xhxa5. I decided to experiment with him and make some fun animation. Walk cycles can be difficult and this is by no means perfect. But I had allot of fun animating him, so enjoy!!

So at my local Starbucks there's this awesome barista & she happens to be an artist. So she knows I'm like this crazy Animator/ director wanna be. So everyday she draws a different funny characters on my cup. Early this morning she said "this is your 5:30am expression" lol

My day was spent on Skype with my editor finishing a commercial for the deadline tomorrow, hence the photo. PS: THATS ME TAKING THE PIC :)

So I have decided to try and upload a picture a day from my IPhone app, Hipstamatic. The photos can be random from pics of myself or just something I thought was cool. Under each daily photo in a 160 characters I will tell the story behind it. So here's the first one, enjoy!

Some pretty exciting stuff coming down the line, I will be doing a update very soon, but till then just die of curiosity lol.

Planning And Scheming Your Animation By Josh!

Here's a little picture of the way a animated scene is planed out. Take note there is many ways to do the same thing, and I'm not claiming to have the perfect workflow, but this is how I work, and I thought I might share it with you.

Step 1: come up with Idea, Thinking.........Got It! Guy jumps on gym ball then does back flip off it.

Step 2: Try and find video reference for your shot (youtube is your friend) or shoot video of yourself. Call me out of shape but I'm not doing any Backflips in the near future, YouTube It is lol. Got It! Cool, time for step 3

Step 3: Time to start drawing. After your done watching your video reference you want to thumb nail it all out. Basically draw simple drawings that describe the scenes actions, try and not copy the video reference too close, because that would be boring. You also don't need to be Michelangelo, stick figures rule the world!

Step 4: After all drawing is done, I throw all my drawings into a storyboard template. From there I work out the timing of my scene. This is basically the time it takes the character to get from position A to B. Then its time to hit up the computer and start Animating.

New School Happenings!

Well its 2011 people and I'm excited about the future! I'm starting my second term at Animation Mentor, I learned so much last term from my mentor Richard Fournier. I'm really looking forward to working with my new mentor Dimos Vrysellas, the guy has worked on every cool animated film ever made. http://www.dimos.ca
